Poached Pears

Take a bite out of these flavorful poached pears, seasoned with cinnamon and two WIC approved ingredients: 100% grape juice and orange rinds. Next time you eat an orange, save the peels because you'll want to use them to flavor this irresistible dessert.

Poached Pears in Grape Juice

Ingredients:

  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 1/2 cups of 100% grape juice*
  • 4 pears peeled and halved leaving the stem in tact*
  • 2 strips of orange rind*
*WIC approved items

Directions:
  1. In a medium sauce pan bring grape juice, cinnamon sticks and orange rind to boil.
  2. place pears upright with stem on top into the sauce pan and simmer for 15 - 20 minutes on medium to low heat.
  3. Remove the pears from the sauce, reserve and cool completely.
  4. Simmer the remaining sauce and reduce it to about 1/3 of a cup. Remove from heat and cool. Drizzle the sauce over the pears when ready to serve.
